This wonderful time of years starts with a day for giving thanks. We still love the idea of Thanksgiving Day. We enjoy counting our blessings and praising God for them.
But hard on the heels of Thanksgiving comes Black Friday, a frenzied day dedicated to sealing the deals for upcoming Christmas celebrations—and some of us have mixed emotions about that, especially when Black Friday began backing into Thanksgiving Day.
Then comes Cyber Monday, the day retailers entice all of those who swore off Black Friday to venture out via Internet.
Now comes Giving Tuesday, another idea we appreciate as an appropriate bookend to Thanksgiving. Instead of concentrating on getting more for ourselves or our own families, Giving Tuesday calls us to foster and harness our community spirit during the Christmas season. It’s a national day and a global movement to give back.
Elizabeth’s New Life Center is a partner organization in Giving Tuesday, which means that we are doing our part to make people aware that the non-profit organizations of this world also are worthy recipients of your good gifts, whether they take the form of volunteerism or financial assistance.
Please understand. It’s not about competing for gifts of the season, it’s about sharing them: a day for giving back. So help us spread the word. Giving Tuesday, Dec. 3, is coming.
