Where do I begin? …
I was young and in love with my ex-husband, and I got pregnant when I was 18 and he was 20. He wanted me to have an abortion, and I didn’t want to have any part of that.
I was very fortunate to have a very supportive mother that stood by me. This was an unexpected blessing for sure. I had lots of feelings of guilt, fear, was scared, and didn’t know how hard it was going to be. We got married three months before I gave birth and started acting like grownups.
I gave birth to a beautiful 9-pound, 2-ounce baby boy. We named him after his dad, Robert Clay Lansdale II.
When I was in
labor, however, he had his first bowel movement in the birth canal and aspirated it. He had a very low apagar score, and they told me that if he made it, he would be handicapped. I had only gotten to hold him for minutes due to him being critically ill, but in those few minutes, I fell deeply in love with this little boy. He stole my heart.
The next 13 days were some of the worst in my life, full of ups and downs–but Rob is an overcomer and has been all of his life. He came home on seizure medication. I was so scared that he would have a seizure while I was alone with him. He also had to attend the Doty House, and they would watch him our whole appointment. He attended until his first birthday. At that appointment they were sitting in a circle around him, and someone sneezed. Rob went and got them a tissue, and they said he didn’t have to come back. He was fine. Overcomer again.
Fast forward many years later and during my divorce from his father he developed a defect on his brain from the stress, and he started having seizures again and was put back on medicine. But, again, he overcame that, too.
Rob is now a youth minister in Canton, Ohio with a lovely wife and two beautiful daughters. He is a graduate of Kentucky Christian College with a degree in youth and family ministry. He has followed God’s plan for his life since his late teenage years. He has a wonderful testimony, and most of it is how he overcame so many obstacles in his life.
I can’t imagine if God did not bless me with this wonderful human being in my life. He trusted little ole’ me with being his parent. He is definitely an unexpected blessing!
